Thursday, Nov 26, 2009

AMPAC Fine Chemicals LLC (AFC), a subsidiary of American Pacific Corporation announced today that it received the Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability Award at the Annual Statewide Environmental Summit, sponsored by the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA), the Industrial Environmental Association (IEA) and the Chemical Industry Council of California (CICC) held in San Diego. This is the most prestigious award available from all three organizations and gains substantial recognition from the State of California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and other state and local regulatory agencies for environmental and corporate responsibility.

The award was presented for AFC's successful efforts over the past several years to enhance pollution prevention and sustainability in their manufacturing processes. AFC was honored with three awards over the past three years by the CICC and DTSC for their successful efforts in pollution prevention and corporate responsibility with regards to process optimization and application of green chemistry principles through enhanced pollution prevention.

Dr. Aslam Malik, President of AMPAC Fine Chemicals LLC, received the award from the industry associations' executive directors. Dr. Malik said, "We are truly honored by this award. This is the fourth recognition award for our efforts demonstrating AFC's commitment to pollution prevention through continuous improvement and optimization in our processes." Dr. Malik added, "California is at the forefront of the pollution prevention initiative and we are very proud to be a significant part of this effort. This reinforces that our pollution prevention efforts continue to have significant impacts to the triple bottom line: good for the environment, good for the economy and good for the company's bottom line."

Martha Murray, AFC's Director of Environmental Health & Safety Compliance, added, "It is important for industry, non-governmental organizations and the regulatory agencies, to establish meaningful working relationships allowing discussions on implementation of sustainability programs. These relationships are critical to all sites while we embark on regulatory changes regarding green chemistry principles that will lead to a better environment while maintaining competitiveness and economic strength to all industries in California."
