Leading Wire and Cable industry experts will give an insight into the specific energy growth and future cable requirements of the South African market at the Borealis and Borouge Wire & Cable Academy in Johannesburg on November 22-23, 2011. It is the latest in a global series of events organised by Borealis and Borouge, leading providers of innovative plastics solutions for the global wire and cable industry.

Conferences have already been hosted in Russia, Brazil and the United States, with the most recent event taking place in China from November 10-13, 2011.

The two-day conference is an advanced seminar and training in the field of power and communication cable manufacturing, technologies and future markets tailored to the region‟s needs. Southern Africa is an important market for Borealis and Borouge and is supported by long-term relationships and excellent cooperation within the wire and cable industry.

Participants at the Borealis and Borouge Wire & Cable Academy in South Africa can look forward to presentations on the following topics from Borealis technical experts and invited external specialists:

 Global and African Wire & Cable market outlook
 Future development of cable grids
 Latest cable production technology and optimisation of the cable production process
 Material solutions and their performance in the final cable

Confirmed external speakers include Dr. Dirk Van Hertem, Electrical Engineering Department at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium (K.U.Leuven); Mikko Lahti, Research and Development Director, Maillefer Extrusion; and Franz Daenekas, Senior Wire and Cable Consultant.

The Borealis and Borouge Wire & Cable Academy global concept was initiated three years ago with the objective to facilitate knowledge sharing between key value chain stakeholders as well as to enhance industry standards and support future developments of innovative wire and cable solutions.

“Supporting a secure future for the wire and cable industry through our own pioneering developments and investments and as a long-term reliable partner is fundamental to our strong commitment to this market. The Borealis and Borouge Wire & Cable Academy offers customers and business partners a valuable insight into trends, both global and local, and training on technical advances, to promote future innovation across the wire and cable value chain,” says Marc Hubert, Borealis Vice President Wire & Cable.

Anton Wolfsberger, Borealis Marketing Manager Wire & Cable, adds, “In line with our commitment „Bringing Energy All Around,‟ we ensure that each event focuses on the challenges facing a specific region and explores optimal and relevant cabling solutions to best support the needs of the particular market.”

The 2011 event in China, to be held from November 10-13, marks the first time involvement of the Borealis and Borouge Wire & Cable Academy in organising the 2011 Annual Technical Conference of CES (China Electrotechnical Society) W&C (Wire and Cable) Committee, together with the SECRI (Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute).

Presentations will cover subjects such as offshore power transmission from a cable maker‟s perspective, performance and reliability of the current power infrastructure, challenges of undergrounding high voltage and extra high voltage cables, as well as HVDC cable technology, specification and experience in installation and testing in China. The conference participants will be given the opportunity to tour the Nanping Sun Cable state-of-art cable plant in Fujian and the Fuzhou Power Utility for submarine cable projects.

“Our global Wire & Cable Academy provides a unique platform for experts
to share knowledge and strengthen business relationships across the industry and we are pleased to initiate it in China,” says Michael Bjorn, Borouge Vice President Wire & Cable.

As global long term reliable partners in the plastics-based solutions for the wire and cable industry, Borealis and Borouge provide a broad range of innovative and quality solutions for low to extra high voltage power cables and all major types of communication cables that improve productivity for their customers.
