Thursday, Nov 08, 2012

As a leader in the development of the first commercially viable polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) polymer in 1972, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP is pleased to celebrate the product’s 40th anniversary by announcing improved production from the company’s newest Ryton® PPS plant located in Borger, Texas.

“As plant output continues to increase, so do our business growth opportunities. This is a very exciting time for us and the industry.

“Ryton® PPS has come a long way since it was first commercialized,” said Kyle Mathis, general manager of Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Engineering Polymers business. “Over the years, we have worked diligently to improve our resins. With this new plant, we are able to produce innovative polymers and compounds to continue our 40-year success story.”

Known for dimensional stability and resistance to corrosive and high-temperature environments, Ryton® PPS is well-suited for demanding applications, including electronic components, under-the-hood automotive parts, fibers and appliances. The newest PPS plant produces high purity quench polymers capable of meeting the most challenging applications.

“Ryton® PPS and Xtel® PPS Alloys have maintained a strong competitive edge across numerous application sectors because of their unique combination of key properties,” said Mathis. “As plant output continues to increase, so do our business growth opportunities. This is a very exciting time for us and the industry.”

Chevron Phillips Chemical operates both flash and quench-type polymer plants at its Borger, Texas facility with nameplate capacity of 20,000 metric tons per year. The company also compounds the material in LaPorte, Texas and Kallo, Belgium with technical excellence centers in Asia, Europe and the United States.
